Inspired by Andrea Gibson’s poem “Bury Me in a Blue Blanket, So God Doesn’t Know I’m a Girl” 

This work draws inspiration from Andrea Gibson’s poignant line and reflects on gender discrimination, systemic oppression, and the inherited weight of female inferiority. Rooted in a hidden memory passed down from my mother, the piece explores themes of depression, devaluation, and unpaid domestic labour, experiences often silenced within the walls of the family home.

Using implied and redacted imagery, the project reveals what is both visible and invisible. It speaks to “the womb that never produced blue”, a quiet resistance, a coded history, and an intimate account of what it means to be born a girl.
